• SINDO Newspaper and Sindonews Held Student Robot Olympiad

    JAKARTA - National newspapers, SINDO and Sindonews.com in collaboration with Robotic explorer held Sindo Robotic Olympiad in Lotte Shopping Avenue Kuningan, Jakarta, Saturday (08/15/2015).

    Robot Olympiad followed by elementary and junior high school students in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi) was held also to celebrate the 70th independence anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. The event is also expected to foster children's creativity of robotics.

    Chief Editor of SINDO Newspaper, Pung Purwanto said that this robot Olympiad was held for the first time and will continue in the coming years. According to him, this event can give encouragement to young people to excel in science and technology. "We start from elementary and junior high schools. Senior high school students will be our next target," he added.

    Minister of Education and Culture, Anis Baswedan in his speech said that the technology is important. The concept of 'Steam' should be implemented, which includes the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.

    "I appreciate the event. Moreover, children who make robots should include components of art," said Anies.

    Anies hopes there will be other Olympiads in other places in order to have a positive impact on the development of robotics technology in Indonesia.

    Meanwhile, the Director of Robotic Explorer, Jully Tjindrawan, said of the total 2,500 students from elementary and junior high school, formed 800 teams that will compete. Some of robots that successfully created are maid robot, for example cleaning robot or small vacuum cleaner.

    Then, the 6 winners will be selected which consists of three teams of elementary school and three teams from junior high school. The announcement of winners of the Olympics will be held in December 2015.
